Access, Service And Knowledge (ASK)
The Alliance implemented the ASK Programme with the slogan “what young people want, what young people need” between 2013 and 2015 complementing one another’s efforts to enhance the sexual and reproductive health of young people. The ASK Programme targeted young people between the ages of ten (10) and twenty-four (24) years with a specific focus on the uptake of Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) services.
All 8 members of the Alliance implemented the ASK Programme. They were Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana – PPAG; Hope for Future Generations – HFFG; Northern Sector Awareness and Action Centre – NORSAAC; Simli Aid; Presbyterian Health Services – North; Curious Minds, Theatre for a Change and Savana Signatures.
ASK aim was to improve the SRHR of young people between the ages of ten and twenty-four years (10-24 years) in Ghana by increasing young people’s uptake of SRH services by the end of 2015
The ASK Programme was funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs through seven International NGOs working in an Alliance too, namely RutgersWPF (Alliance Lead), Simavi, AMREF Flying Doctors, CHOICE for Youth and Sexuality, dance4life, Stop AIDS Now! based in the Netherlands and the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) based in the United Kingdom – UK.
The programme was implemented in communities and schools within the Northern, Upper East, Brong Ahafo and Central Region
Get Up Speak Out (GUSO)
The Alliance implemented a five-year SRHR programme (2016 – 2020) called “Get Up Speak Out” (GUSO) targeted at young people between the ages of 10 – 24 years. Six out of the eight Alliance members implemented the GUSO programme in Ghana. These are Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG), Hope for Future Generations (HFFG), Savanna Signatures, NORSAAC, Presbyterian Health Services-North (PHS-N) and Curious Minds.
The geographical areas where the GUSO Programme was implemented were in four (4) districts (Tamale Metro, Sagnerigu, Gushegu and East Mamprusi) in the Northern region and two districts (Bolgatanga Municipal and Talensi district) in the Upper East region.
Young people in the age group 10-24, including underserved categories of young people living with HIV (YPLHIV), young LGBT, young mothers, physically challenged young people, hard-to-reach youth in remote areas and young people in the age group 10-16 years were the target population.
The GUSO programme was funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs through a Consortium of International Organizations based in the Netherlands and UK. These Organizations include Rutgers, IPPF, Simavi, dance4life, CHOICE and aidsfonds.
The GUSO programme was anchored by the following core principles: structural and meaningful participation of young people; inclusiveness; positive and rights-based approach; gender transformative approach and programming and sustainability.
Equal Rights And Opportunities For Girls And Women (EROP)
The Equal Rights and Opportunities for Women and Girls Project dubbed the EROP Project was proposed as a response to numerous human rights challenges women and girls continue to face and as a result do not realize their rights and take opportunities for the advancement of their ambitions and to live fulfilled lives.
The main aim of the project was to contribute to the realization of gender equality and opportunities for women and girls to live successful lives in Ghana by the end of July 2021.
The EROP Project was a joint proposal for funding to the Dutch Embassy in Ghana by Members of the Ghana SRHR Alliance (GH Alliance), Africa Centre for Human Rights and Sustainable Development (AfCHuRSD) and WOMEN IN NEED (WIN).
The target group from the interventions of the EROP Project were women and girls including:
- 1. Those living with HIV,
- 2. Those who identify Themselves as LBTI,
- 3. Those living with disabilities and those living in hard-to-reach areas of the Project locations
The project is being implemented in five (5) communities per Northern Region, North-East Region, Upper East Region, Upper West and Central Region
